These days, skin care is a HUGE business. Open any magazine or social media app, and you’re sure to see ads for new creams, serums, or treatments. Everyone wants blemish-free, smoother, glowing skin—and an esthetician can help them. Or is it “aesthetician?” Hopefully, we can help you clear up some confusion. At Nuvani Institute, you can take an esthetician training program in Austin.
Is It “Esthetician,” Or “Aesthetician?”
Esthetician and aesthetician—you probably have seen both of these terms. Both occupations are licensed skin care specialists. Sometimes they’re used interchangeably, but there can be a technical difference. Generally, estheticians focus on cosmetic treatments, and aestheticians’ roles are more medical. Due to this difference, aestheticians’ titles can also include medical, clinical, or paramedical. However, these roles, their duties, and their titles can vary state to state.
The Texas Department of Licensing and Regulation uses the term “esthetician.” These licensed professionals can perform cosmetology services at licensed cosmetology or facial salons. In Texas, estheticians can’t perform laser hair removal, skin resurfacing, or teeth whitening. The Texas Medical Board defines these treatments as medical, so only licensed medical professionals can offer them.
What Will I Learn During Esthetician Training?
Nuvani’s Cosmetology Esthetician Program trains students to become facial specialists. We define an esthetician as “a skin care therapist, spa technician, and facial specialist who helps in cleaning, beautifying and maintaining the skin and face.” It’s a big deal for people to trust you with their face. Therefore, you need to be proficient in many areas.
Esthetician Regulations and Safety
As we’ve mentioned already, the state licensing board regulates the profession. So, part of our training program is making sure students are familiar with the relevant rules and laws. Sanitation, safety, and first aid are also essential.
Technical And Scientific Knowledge
Much of skin care involves science. As a result, esthetician training requires studying some science. Classes include chemistry, anatomy, physiology, and even nutrition. Additionally, you’ll learn the necessary electricity, machines, and equipment.
Client Experience And Cosmetics
People see facialists because they want healthy, beautiful skin. So estheticians need to be familiar with facial treatments, cleansing, masking, and therapies. Makeup is also part of the program. But clients come to get facials to relax and take a break. That’s why estheticians and facialists need to create a comfortable, calming experience. Nuvani offers classes on client care, management, and aromatherapy to do exactly that.
